The One-Surgeon Principle at Will Be
Trust is simpler when you know exactly who is responsible. At Will Be, it is always the same person.
The one-surgeon principle means that at Will Be Plastic Surgery, a single surgeon, Dr. Kim Jun-young, personally performs every consultation, surgical design, operation and follow-up. No other doctor operates on you and there are no hand-offs between stages. The person who plans your surgery is the person who performs it and reviews your healing.
What is the one-surgeon principle?
Will Be is a one-surgeon clinic. Dr. Kim Jun-young, representative surgeon, personally carries out four stages of care for every patient: the consultation, the surgical design, the operation and the follow-up. No stage is delegated to another doctor.
Ghost surgery, where a patient is operated on by someone other than the surgeon they agreed to, has been a serious concern in medical tourism and in Korea itself. The one-surgeon principle is a structural answer to that concern. There is only one surgeon at Will Be, so there is no one else to substitute.
Why does continuity improve care?
Surgery is a chain of decisions, and each link depends on the one before. Consider a double eyelid operation. In consultation, the surgeon observes how your eyelid opens, how much skin there is, and how you react to a trial crease drawn at different heights. In design, those observations become precise markings. In the operating room, the surgeon adjusts to what the tissue actually shows once the skin is opened. In follow-up, the surgeon interprets swelling and asymmetry in the light of what was done.
When one person handles all four stages, nothing is lost between them. Subtle preferences you expressed in consultation, such as wanting a crease that is visible but not obvious, travel directly into the operation.
What does it mean for you as a patient?
- You know who operates. The surgeon you meet is the surgeon who performs the operation.
- Your wishes are heard first-hand. There is no intermediary interpreting what you want.
- Follow-up is informed. Every review is carried out by the person who knows the details of your surgery.
- Responsibility is clear. If a question or concern arises, it goes to the person who made the decisions.
- The pace is humane. One surgeon can only take on a limited number of operations, which leaves time for consultation and care.
Are there trade-offs?
Yes, and it is fair to name them. A one-surgeon clinic has limited availability, so appointments and surgery dates may need to be booked further ahead. The range of procedures is focused rather than exhaustive. For some patients a larger clinic with more surgeons and specialties is a reasonable choice. How to check who performs your surgery anywhere
Whether or not you choose Will Be, it is reasonable to ask any clinic who will perform your operation, who will be in the room, and who will see you afterward. Our guides on how to choose a plastic surgeon in Korea and questions to ask at your consultation suggest how to ask clearly. Questions, answered
Frequently asked questions
Still wondering about something? Ask Dr. Kim directly — every consultation at Will Be is with the surgeon himself.
Is there any stage where another doctor is involved?
No other surgeon performs the consultation, design, operation or follow-up at Will Be. Dr. Kim Jun-young handles each of these personally. Other trained staff support the clinic in their own roles, such as nursing and administration, but the surgical decisions and the operation itself are Dr. Kim's.
What is ghost surgery?
Ghost surgery is when a patient is operated on by a different surgeon from the one they consulted and agreed to, often without their knowledge. It raises serious ethical and safety concerns. Will Be's one-surgeon structure means there is only one surgeon who can operate on you.
Does one surgeon mean longer waiting times?
It can. Because Dr. Kim performs every operation himself, the number of surgeries per day is limited. Booking in advance is recommended, especially for international patients planning travel. The clinic will discuss available dates during your consultation.
Why does follow-up with the same surgeon matter?
Healing changes the appearance of a result over weeks and months. Swelling can make one side look different from the other, or a crease look higher than intended. A surgeon who performed the operation can judge whether a change is expected healing or needs attention, because they know exactly what was done.
How can I verify who operates at any clinic?
Ask directly who will perform the surgery and whether that will be stated in your consent form. Ask who else will be in the operating room and who will see you at follow-up. A clear, consistent answer is a good sign. Our consultation questions guide lists more ways to check.
