Eye Surgery in Seoul
Eyes carry expression before a single word is spoken. Changing them is delicate work, and it begins with understanding how yours are built.
Eye surgery in Seoul covers procedures that reshape the eyelids and surrounding area: double eyelid surgery, ptosis correction, inner and outer corner surgery, upper and lower blepharoplasty, and fat repositioning or grafting under the eyes. At Will Be, one surgeon, Dr. Kim Jun-young, designs each plan around your own proportions.
Eye surgery at Will Be
Eye surgery in Seoul is the heart of Will Be Plastic Surgery. From a first double eyelid to a complex revision, from inner-corner refinement to under-eye rejuvenation, every eye procedure at the clinic is planned and performed by the same person: Dr. Kim Jun-young, representative surgeon. He sees you at consultation, marks your design, performs the operation and follows your healing. There are no hand-offs.
The eyelid is a small structure with many layers: thin skin, the orbicularis oculi muscle that closes the eye, the orbital septum that holds back fat, the levator aponeurosis that opens the eye, and the tarsal plate that gives the lid its shape. Most eye procedures work by adjusting how these layers relate to each other. A difference of a millimeter can change expression. That is why design comes first, and why it is always built from your own proportions. You will be you.
Design before technique
Techniques matter, but they are tools. What makes an eye result look natural is the design behind it: the height and shape of a crease relative to your eye width, the balance between the two sides, how the upper lid relates to the brow, and how the lower lid meets the cheek. A fold that looks elegant on one face can look heavy or surprised on another.
At Will Be, design is done with you, in front of a mirror. Dr. Kim uses a thin probe to simulate crease heights, explains how your brow and eye opening influence the result, and marks the plan with you sitting upright so gravity is accounted for. He also tells you plainly when a change you are considering is unlikely to suit you, or when a smaller change would look more like you. Many people find this the most reassuring part of the process: understanding not only what will be done, but why.
Double eyelid surgery
A double eyelid crease forms where the skin is connected to the eye-opening structures. There are two main ways to create it:
- Ten-Minute Natural Adhesion Double Eyelid: a non-incisional method for thin lids with little excess skin or fat, using fine buried sutures and the body's own adhesion. Recovery is typically quick.
- Incisional Double Eyelid Surgery: a fine incision along the crease allows skin, fat and muscle to be adjusted and the fold fixed securely. It suits thicker lids, excess skin or combined ptosis correction.
Not sure which suits you? See natural adhesion vs incisional double eyelid.
Eye opening and revision
- Ptosis Correction (Eye-Opening Surgery) strengthens a weak or stretched levator so the lid lifts higher, helping eyes look more awake and balanced.
- Revision Double Eyelid Surgery corrects folds that have loosened, sit too high, look uneven or left visible scars. It is one of Will Be's central areas of work, approached with careful diagnosis of scar, levator function and skin quantity.
Inner and outer corners
- Epicanthoplasty (Inner Corner) reduces a prominent epicanthal fold to reveal more of the inner corner and allow a smoother crease. Restraint is essential.
- Lateral Canthoplasty (Outer Corner) extends the outer corner slightly where hidden space exists, or softens an upturned tilt.
- Lower Canthoplasty (Lower Eyelid Line) gently lowers the outer lower lid for a softer, taller eye.
These procedures produce changes measured in millimeters. Candidate selection matters more than technique.
Under-eye bags, hollows and dark circles
- Lower Blepharoplasty with Septum Reinforcement strengthens the membrane that holds under-eye fat, flattening bags while preserving volume.
- Under-Eye Fat Repositioning moves bulging fat into the groove below, treating bag and hollow at once.
- Under-Eye Fat Grafting adds your own micro-processed fat where volume is missing.
Choosing between them depends on whether you have too much volume in one place, too little in another, or both. Read lower blepharoplasty vs fat repositioning for more.
Heavy, hooded or ageing upper eyelids
- Upper Blepharoplasty for Mature Eyelids removes excess skin conservatively so eyes look refreshed rather than altered.
- Sub-Brow Lift (Below-Brow Excision) removes skin just below the eyebrow, keeping the natural crease and thin lid skin intact. It often suits thick skin and outer hooding.
When heaviness comes mainly from a descended brow, an endoscopic forehead and brow lift may be considered instead.
Which eye procedure is right for me?
Many people arrive with a concern rather than a procedure in mind, and that is the right place to start. Hooded eyes, monolids, asymmetric eyes, tired-looking eyes and under-eye bags can each have more than one cause. A tired look, for example, may come from weak eye opening, excess skin, a low brow or under-eye shadows, and each is treated differently.
At consultation, Dr. Kim examines your eyes at rest and in motion: how far the lids open, where your brows sit, how much skin and fat are present, the shape of your inner and outer corners, and how the lower lids meet the cheek. He then explains what is causing what, and which options could help, including when no surgery is the wiser answer. To understand the structures involved, see eyelid anatomy explained.
What does recovery usually involve?
Recovery depends on the procedure. Non-incisional double eyelid surgery typically has the shortest downtime, with most visible swelling settling within about a week. Incisional eyelid procedures usually involve suture removal at around five to seven days and visible swelling for two to three weeks, with the final result settling over three to six months. Lower-lid surgery often involves more bruising. Your surgeon will give you a timeline for your own plan. Practical guidance is in double eyelid surgery recovery and eyelid surgery risks and how they are managed.
Travelling to Seoul for eye surgery
Most eye procedures require about five to ten days in Seoul, depending on whether sutures need removal and whether procedures are combined. The clinic is in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam, near Sinsa Station. What is the most common eye surgery in Korea?
Double eyelid surgery is among the most widely performed eye procedures in Korea, using either non-incisional or incisional methods. It is often combined with ptosis correction or epicanthoplasty when anatomy calls for it. The right choice depends on eyelid thickness, skin quantity, eye-opening strength and the shape of the inner corner.
Can I combine several eye procedures in one operation?
Often, yes. Double eyelid surgery is frequently combined with ptosis correction or epicanthoplasty, and upper and lower lid procedures can sometimes be performed together. Combining can mean one recovery period, but also more swelling at once. Each element should be justified by your anatomy, which Dr. Kim assesses at consultation.
How do I know if I need ptosis correction or just a double eyelid?
If your eyelid margin sits low over the iris, or you raise your eyebrows to open your eyes, ptosis may be present. A double eyelid alone does not strengthen eye opening. Dr. Kim measures eye-opening strength at every eyelid consultation, because it changes which procedure makes sense.
Is eye surgery at Will Be performed by the same surgeon throughout?
Yes. Will Be is a one-surgeon clinic. Dr. Kim Jun-young personally carries out every consultation, design, operation and follow-up. The person who plans your eyes is the person who operates and who checks your healing, which is especially valuable for precise, millimeter-level eye procedures.
How much does eye surgery cost in Seoul?
Cost depends on the procedure, whether it is a first surgery or a revision, the technique required, combined procedures and anesthesia. A personal quote is given after assessment, either in person or through a virtual consultation with photos. For more on what influences price, see the clinic's guide to double eyelid surgery cost in Korea.
Can I have a consultation before travelling?
Yes. You can send photos for a virtual consultation before you travel. This helps Dr. Kim give a preliminary opinion on which procedures may suit you, and helps you plan how long to stay. A final plan is always confirmed in person, because eyelids need to be examined in motion.
