Sinsa and Garosu-gil: the neighborhood at a glance

This Sinsa and Garosu-gil neighborhood guide is written for patients rather than tourists. Sinsa-dong lies in the northwest of Gangnam, south of the Han River. Will Be is on the fifth floor of the Mihye Building on Gangnam-daero, close to Sinsa Station. A short walk away is Garosu-gil, whose name means roughly "tree-lined street": a long avenue shaded by ginkgo trees, with the smaller lanes around it filled with cafes, bakeries, design shops and small restaurants.

The area is busy on weekends and evenings, particularly on the main roads, but the residential lanes just behind them are usually quiet. That mix is part of its charm for patients: everything you need is close, yet peace is only a turn away.

Getting around

Sinsa Station is served by Line 3 and the Shinbundang Line, which connect to much of Seoul, including other parts of Gangnam. Taxis are plentiful on Gangnam-daero, and ride-hailing apps work well. A rechargeable transport card, available at convenience stores, covers the subway and buses. After surgery, when eyes may be swollen and vision a little restricted, taxis are usually the easiest choice, even for short distances. See getting from Incheon Airport to the clinic for arrival options.

Everyday essentials for recovery

  • Pharmacies: several are within walking distance of the clinic. Korean pharmacies sell cold packs, gauze, simple wound supplies and everyday medicines. Check with Dr. Kim Jun-young before taking any new medicine or supplement.
  • Convenience stores: open long hours and useful for water, soft food, rice porridge, fruit and basic toiletries.
  • Delivery: food delivery apps are widely used in Seoul, which is a gift on the days you prefer to stay in.
  • ATMs and cards: cards are accepted almost everywhere, but carry a little cash for small purchases.

Gentle walks and quiet spaces

Once the first few days of rest have passed and you feel ready, short walks do body and mind good. The side streets around Garosu-gil are pleasant for an unhurried stroll. Dosan Park, a small, green park named after the independence activist Ahn Chang-ho, is within reach and has shaded paths and benches. Toward the river, the Han River parks offer open space and wide views, though they can be windy and exposed in summer heat. Keep walks short at first, carry water, and wear sunglasses and a hat to protect healing skin.

Cafes and food

Garosu-gil is known for its cafes, which make good destinations for a slow afternoon once you feel ready. Many serve light meals, soups and pastries. In the first days after surgery, you may prefer softer, milder foods; Korean rice porridge shops are a comforting option. Very spicy and salty dishes can make facial swelling feel worse, so save those for later. It is wise to avoid alcohol during early recovery.

Shopping, gently

The neighborhood is full of boutiques, cosmetics shops and independent design stores. Browsing can be a pleasant, low-effort outing later in your stay. Avoid long days on your feet, heavy shopping bags and crowded places in hot weather while you are still healing. It is also wise to hold off on new skincare near incisions until Dr. Kim confirms it is safe; see scar care after facial surgery.

Nearby areas

Apgujeong and Cheongdam lie to the east, with department stores and wide avenues. Other parts of Gangnam are a short subway or taxi ride away. When you feel well, and with Dr. Kim's agreement, a modest outing further afield can be a lovely way to spend a later recovery day. Keep plans flexible and rest when your body asks you to.

Weather and seasons

Seoul has four distinct seasons. Spring brings mild days and blossom; summer is hot, humid and punctuated by a rainy season; autumn is crisp, clear and, on Garosu-gil, golden with ginkgo leaves; winter is cold and dry. For recovery, the gentler seasons make short walks more comfortable, but any time of year works with sensible planning. In summer, keep outings short and shaded, and avoid heat that can increase swelling. In winter, a warm hat and scarf double as useful cover for a healing face, and a humidifier or simple moisturizer helps with dry indoor air.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Still wondering about something? Ask Dr. Kim directly — every consultation at Will Be is with the surgeon himself.

Where exactly is the clinic located?

Will Be Plastic Surgery is on the fifth floor of the Mihye Building, 590 Gangnam-daero, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in the Sinsa-dong area. It is a short walk from Sinsa Station, which is served by Line 3 and the Shinbundang Line, and close to Garosu-gil. Save the address in Korean on your phone to show taxi drivers.

Are there pharmacies near the clinic?

Yes, several pharmacies are within walking distance. They stock cold packs, gauze, simple wound-care supplies and everyday medicines. Before taking any new medicine or supplement after surgery, check with Dr. Kim, because some products can increase bleeding or interact with the medications you have been prescribed.

Is Sinsa a good area to recover in?

For many patients, yes. It is close to the clinic, well served by taxis and public transport, and has pharmacies, convenience stores and food delivery on hand. The main roads can be busy, but the side streets are generally calm. Choosing accommodation away from the main road helps you rest well.

When can I walk around Garosu-gil after surgery?

Many patients enjoy short, gentle walks once the first few days of rest have passed and they feel steady. Start with brief outings, wear sunglasses and a hat, carry water and avoid crowds in hot weather. Strenuous activity should wait until Dr. Kim advises it is reasonable, since exertion can increase swelling.

How do I get around Sinsa without speaking Korean?

Subway signs and announcements include English, and ride-hailing apps make taxis straightforward. Keep your accommodation and the clinic address saved in Korean to show drivers. A translation app with camera text recognition helps with menus and labels. Many shops and cafes around Garosu-gil are used to welcoming international visitors.
