Endoscopic Forehead Lift Recovery: A Clear Timeline

Lifting the brow changes how the eyes read: less tired, less stern. Recovery is mostly about swelling and sensation finding their way back.

The short answer In brief

Endoscopic forehead lift recovery usually takes about one to two weeks before most people feel comfortable socially. Small scalp incisions are closed with stitches or staples, typically removed around seven to fourteen days. Swelling may drift toward the eyes, and scalp numbness or itching can last months. The brow settles over three to six months.

How an endoscopic forehead lift heals

Forehead lift recovery is gentler than many people expect, because the endoscopic forehead and brow lift works through a few short incisions hidden in the scalp rather than a long cut across the head. A small camera guides the release of tissue along the brow bone, and the forehead is lifted and fixed in its new position while it heals.

Two things shape recovery. First, the forehead tissue must reattach to the bone at its new height; this is why protecting the forehead from heavy frowning and pressure matters in the first weeks. Second, the sensory nerves of the scalp run upward from the brow, so numbness and later itching above the incisions are common as those nerves recover.

Forehead lift recovery timeline

Time What is typical What to do
Days 0–2 Tightness across the forehead, headache-like pressure, a light head dressing. Head elevated, prescribed medication only, rest.
Days 3–7 Swelling and bruising may move down to the upper eyelids and even below the eyes. Brows may look high. Cold compresses around the eyes as advised. Gentle hair washing once allowed, often after about 48 hours.
Days 7–14 Scalp stitches or staples are usually removed. Bruising fades. Attend follow-up. Avoid strenuous activity.
Weeks 2–4 Most people return to work. Forehead may feel tight; some expression feels restricted. No heavy lifting. Avoid hats that press on incisions.
Months 1–3 Numbness gradually recedes; itching is common as nerves recover. Brow height relaxes slightly. Gradual return to full exercise when cleared.
Months 3–6 Brow settles into its long-lasting position. Final assessment.

What is normal after a forehead lift?

  • Brows that look slightly too high or surprised in the first weeks. Some descent is expected as swelling settles.
  • Swelling and bruising that travel downward to the eyelids over the first week.
  • Numbness of the scalp behind the incisions, followed by tingling and itching as sensation returns.
  • A tight feeling when raising the eyebrows.
  • Minor hair shedding near the incisions, which usually regrows.

When should you contact the clinic?

  • Rapidly increasing, tense swelling of the forehead or scalp.
  • Severe headache that is new, worsening, or not relieved by prescribed medication.
  • Fever, spreading redness or discharge at the incisions.
  • Inability to raise one eyebrow that persists or worsens beyond the early swelling period.
  • Any change in vision.

Daily care

  1. Sleep with your head raised and avoid lying face-down.
  2. Do not rub or massage the forehead unless advised.
  3. Wash hair gently when allowed, with lukewarm water, and avoid hair dryers on hot settings, since numb skin cannot sense heat well.
  4. Wait before colouring or chemically treating hair; ask the clinic for timing.
  5. Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol in the early weeks.

A forehead lift is often combined with eyelid surgery, which extends swelling around the eyes. If you are weighing options, sub-brow lift vs endoscopic brow lift explains the differences. General tips are in reducing swelling and bruising.

Notes for international patients

Plan to stay until the stitches or staples are removed, generally 7 to 14 days. If you need to leave earlier, discuss it well in advance; in some cases, removal can be arranged locally, but only with the clinic's guidance. See how long to stay in Korea.

Swelling moving into the eyelids can make the first days look more dramatic than they are. Sunglasses and a soft hat that does not press on the scalp are useful. After you return home, Dr. Kim Jun-young, representative surgeon, reviews brow height and healing through photos at agreed intervals. See follow-up care from abroad.

Returning to work and daily life

Many people return to desk work after about 10 to 14 days. Bruising around the eyes is usually the main visible sign by then, and it can often be covered with makeup once your surgeon agrees. Hair generally conceals the incisions well, even in the first days, which many patients find reassuring.

Driving can resume once you are off sedating medication and can turn your head comfortably. Reading and screen work are fine, although frowning in concentration may feel tight; this is a reminder to take breaks. Heavy lifting, bending and strenuous exercise usually wait for about three to four weeks.

Combining a forehead lift with eyelid surgery

When a forehead lift is combined with upper eyelid surgery, swelling around the eyes is naturally more marked, and the first week feels more like an eyelid recovery. Planning the brow and eyelid together allows each to be adjusted in proportion, but it can lengthen downtime by several days. If you are considering both, the double eyelid surgery recovery guide shows the eyelid side of the timeline.

Why the forehead feels different for a while

After the forehead is released and lifted, the muscles that raise and lower the brow need time to adjust to their new resting position. Expressions can feel stiff or slightly muted for several weeks. Frowning may feel restricted, which is partly intentional: reducing strain on the lifted tissue while it reattaches to the bone.

Sensation often returns in patches, and itching above the incisions can be surprisingly persistent. Keeping the scalp clean, avoiding scratching, and using only products the clinic approves helps. These sensations are part of nerve recovery and usually fade within months.

Understanding brow position during healing

It is common to feel that the brows are set too high in the first weeks. The lift is planned with a small allowance for settling, and early swelling exaggerates height. Over the following months the brow relaxes into its intended position. At Will Be, the aim is a brow that sits naturally with your eyes and forehead, reducing heaviness without an alarmed look. Judge the final height at around three to six months.

Frequently asked questions

How long does forehead lift recovery take?

Most people feel comfortable socially after about one to two weeks following an endoscopic forehead lift. Scalp stitches or staples are typically removed around seven to fourteen days. Scalp numbness and itching can last several months, and the brow usually settles into its final position over three to six months. Your surgeon will confirm your own timeline.

Why is there swelling around my eyes after a forehead lift?

Swelling naturally moves downward with gravity. After a forehead lift, fluid from the forehead often drifts into the upper eyelids and sometimes below the eyes during the first week. This can cause puffiness and bruising around the eyes even though no eye surgery was done. It usually resolves within one to two weeks.

Is scalp numbness after a forehead lift normal?

Yes. The sensory nerves of the scalp run upward from the brow area, and they are affected when the forehead is released and lifted. Numbness behind the incisions is common, followed by tingling or itching as sensation returns over weeks to months. Contact the clinic if numbness is accompanied by severe pain or signs of infection.

When can I wash my hair after a forehead lift?

Gentle hair washing is often allowed after about 48 hours, using lukewarm water and a mild shampoo, without scrubbing the incisions. Avoid hot hair dryers, as numb skin may not sense heat. Hair colouring and chemical treatments should wait until your surgeon confirms the incisions have healed.

Will my eyebrows look too high after surgery?

Brows often look slightly high or surprised in the first weeks because of swelling and the small allowance made for settling. As swelling resolves over the following months, they usually descend to the planned height. It is sensible to wait around three to six months before judging the final brow position.
